Sport at Straits

Tag Rugby Competition- 24/11/23

A big well done to the Year 5 children who took part in a Tag Rugby competition at Stourbridge Rugby Club this half term. You played really well as a team and demonstrated some fantastic rugby skills. 

Year 3 Dodgeball Competition- Spring 1

 

This half term, 10 of our Year 3 children participated in a Dodgeball competition against 15 other local schools. They came 2nd in their group which was fantastic and overall came 6th. A huge well done to all involved. You worked well as a team and demonstrated real skill and determination when playing. 

Year 5 Cross Country Competition (Spring 1)

This half term, 12 of our Year 5 children represented the school in a cross country competition at Summer Hill Secondary school. The children did so well and all made it passed the finish line. A big well done to all involved! Take a look at the photos below:

Year 2 Multi-Skills Competition

This half term, a group of Year 2 children participated in a multi skills competition at Ellowes. The children worked incredibly well as a team and demonstrated real skill on each station. Have a look at some of the action shots below:

Year 6 Sports Hall Athletics Competition

A huge well done to the Year 6 children who took part in a Sports Hall Athletics Competition at Ellowes this half term. You challenged yourselves and displayed great determination. Take a look at the team photos below:

Year 5 Tag Rugby Competition

Our School has achieved a Silver School Games award for our continuous participation in sporting competitions and for the quality and provision of PE and school sport.

Sports Premium

Schools are provided with funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) they offer. This means that schools use the Primary PE and sport premium to:

 

  • Develop or add to the PESSPA activities that your school already offer
  • Build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.

Netball match against The Glynne

Today our Year 6 Netball team played their first league game against The Glynne. The game was very exciting and all players worked really hard as a team. Some of our players scored some fantastic goals. The final score was 10-5 to The Glynne. Well done everyone! 

Year 2 Multi-Skills Competition

10 Year 2 children took part in a Multi-Skills competition at Ellowes Hall. They all displayed great team work and fantastic PE skills. Well done for coming 4th out of 16 schools!

Straits has been awarded a Youth Sports Trust Silver Quality Mark as part of our self-review programme for the second time running!

Our School has achieved a Bronze School Games award for our continuous participation in sporting competitions and for the quality and provision of PE and school sport.

Year 4 Tri-Golf Competition

A huge well done to the 10 Year 4 pupils who competed in the Tri-Golf Tournament on Thursday 11th April. They competed against 7 other teams and achieved second place with a score of over 1200 points! Miss James was incredibly proud of them and they displayed fantastic team work and respect :)

Girls Football Competition

Well done to all of the Year 3 and Year 4 girls who took part in a Football Competition on Friday 15th March at Ellowes. For some of the girls, this was their first experience of playing football competitively and you played extremely well. 

Cross Country Competition

 

Well done to all of the Year 5 and Year 6 boys and girls who ran in the cross country race at Himley Country Park on Saturday 9th March. You did yourselves proud and some of you even improved on your positions from last year. 

High 5 Netball Competition

Well done to all of the Year 5 and Year 6 children who took part in the Sports Hall competition at Ellowes Hall on Friday 25th January. Although the children didn't come in the top 3, they demonstrated some fantastic athletics skills and worked extremely well as a team. A big well done!
Well done to all of the Year 2 children who took part in the Multi-Skills competition at Ellowes Hall on Friday 7th December. All of the children demonstrated some fantastic sport and team work skills and achieved 3rd place. A big well done!
