  • Coronation Picnic

    Fri 05 May 2023

    Dear parents/carers

On Friday 5th May, we will be hosting a Coronation picnic to celebrate this significant and historical event.

The children may wear 'red, white or blue' clothes on this day and have the option of bringing a packed lunch from home or ordering a picnic box from our school meals service, via our wisepay system.

The picnic will start at 12.30pm and you are welcome to join your child (bringing your own picnic and picnic blanket with you). At the end of the event, the children can leave with you or return to class until the end of the day.

    Key points

    1. At the start of the event (12.30pm) you may enter via any of the three school entrances, however when leaving the site at the end of the event (it is likely to last about an hour) we will all exit via the main gate, this will ensure the safety of all pupils and that no pupil can leave unaccompanied.
    2. If the weather is wet then we will continue to hold the picnic in school, but due to the size of our classrooms we will not be able to invite parents to join us.
    3. The picnic will involve a 'Coronation Quiz' and 'Royal Family treasure hunt' - all children will have the opportunity to participate in this either with yourselves or with a staff member.
    4. Toilet facilities will be available in our Annex building, but children must be accompanied to use these.

  • World Book Day

    Thu 02 Mar 2023

    World Book Day

This year, Straits will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March - a day to celebrate the joy and value of reading. Children are invited to dress up as a book character for a day from one of their favourite books. These costumes can be very simple and do not need to cost a lot of money. If possible, it would be great if your child could bring this book or another favourite book for a shared reading session. If your child is unable to bring a book in, they will be able to choose a book from school to share.

This year, we will also be celebrating how we can read almost anywhere! Your half term challenge is to read somewhere different – this could be an unusual place in your house/garden or in a different location (the park, on a day out, somewhere you’ve never been before). Send a photo to:
    reading@straits.dudley.sch.uk

and we’ll celebrate them on our website. If you don’t wish your child to appear on the website, please let us know when you email your picture.
