Year 1
Welcome to Year 1!
Hello from the Year 1 teachers: Mrs Bradfield, Mrs Gilbertson, Mrs Bradley and Miss Cook. Our classes are supported by Miss Southall and Mrs Ashwood. Please keep an eye out on our year group page for key information and to take a sneak peak at some of the fantastic learning that goes on inside and outside our classrooms.
Key Information:
- Please make sure your child brings their reading book and homework diary into school every day.
- When hearing your child read, please comment and sign their diary.
- Reading books will be changed every Friday once your child's book has been completed. Your child will be sent home a reading book that they will be able access. Some children may have an additional book that can be a 'shared' reading text with an adult at home.
- Please practise counting forwards and backwards to 100 and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
- A spelling activity will be sent home every Friday for your child to practise. These will link to our Phonics lessons in school.
- If your child has finished their library book, please leave it in their blue book bag and it will be swapped on our next visit to the library. We aim to visit the school library weekly.
PE:
PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays for both classes this year.
Please make sure any jewellery is removed on these days and that hair is tied up.

A visit from Reverend Giles
Sense of Taste!
Year 1 have been learning about their senses in Science and have thought about their sense of smell and taste today. The children tasted rocket (bitter), jelly tots (sweet), lemon (sour), marmite (savoury/ umami) and crisps (salty). They thought of words to describe the different tastes and voted for whether they liked the tastes or not. In smell pots there was hot chocolate powder, coffee, brie, onion and mint. They had to try and guess what they could smell. There were lots of funny faces being pulled!
