As part of health week, 1CW took part in a Yoga session. We had lots of fun whilst learning some basic individual and partner stances. We had lots of fun as well as developing our body awareness, concentration, awareness of breath and building our strength and balancing skills.
We also learnt about sun safety and healthy eating/living through classroom discussions.
Float or sink?
This week we crossed our fingers and set our ships a sail to investigate if they would sink or float. We took it in turns to predict each outcome then tested them on the water. We timed each ship to find out how long they stayed afloat. The children really enjoyed making and testing their fabulous designs. Well done 1CW!!
Thank you to all the children in 1CW for wearing a bandage to school today and for bringing in a donation to support the Birmingham Children's Hospital. The children enjoyed donating their money by placing it in the dining hall in the shape of a balloon.
Well done Year 1 ! What a team!!
Our wonderful Year 1 children managed to run, jog and walk all the way from London to France! It was amazing to see such teamwork, friendship and 100% effort. Everyone completed 3 laps which was 1.5 miles each- a whole 90 miles as a group. Well done! We took lots of photos (some actions shots!!)
Over the last few days, we have really enjoyed learning about Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the Royal Wedding. Thank you to the children for their fantastic efforts in designing and creating their very own Royal crowns. They all looked amazing...WOW!
Our trip to the Wyre Forest!
What a fabulous day had by all! We have had a fantastic time exploring the forest and investigating all things nature! The children took part in lots of activities from measuring trees, exploring how old trees are using weird and wonderful methods, creating a range of artwork using natural materials and learning lots about woodland animals, whilst also searching for the Highway Rat and the Gruffalo's Child. It was also very exciting as we all got to have an indoor picnic together (which some children couldn't wait for)! We have spent all day in the outdoors and I'm not sure about the children, but the staff will certainly sleep well tonight!
A very big well done to all of the Year 1 children as their behaviour was brilliant all day. We are very proud of you all!
World Book Day!!Today we have been celebrating World Book Day. Thank you to all the parents for their amazing costumes. They all looked fabulous. This afternoon we joined with Year 3 to share our favourite stories. It was lovely to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic. They have had a wonderful day and have even made some new friends across school. Well done!
We had a lovely morning visiting our local church, St.Andrew's. The children learnt lots of new facts and vocabulary linked to Christianity. We also had the opportunity to ask questions about various artefacts. The visit was a great way to begin our in-depth study of Christianity and to learn all about how and why Christians go to church as part of their worship.
We would like to say a big thank you to all staff at St.Andrew's Church for making us feel very welcome, and for helping us to develop our own knowledge and understanding in preparation for our R.E. work. Thank you!
Our Special Visitor!
Year 1 had a wonderful morning yesterday, meeting a range of woodland animals. The children were so brave (the teachers tried to be) and were very excited to hold animals such as a lizard, a snake and a tarantula! We learnt lots of new facts which will help us in our writing over the next few weeks. Take a look below at our photographs!
